Located in Queen Street, Belfast, cakesbyjames is a purveyor of hand-made celebration and wedding cakes from brother and sister team James and Dawn Watson
BAKING SINCE 2010
Cakesbyjames began trading as a stall in St George's Market, Belfast, in 2010. Since then, the bakery moved to its current premises in Queen Street, Belfast. Over the years, the focus has remained on strong recipes, quality ingredients and friendly service.
The bakery has flourished in an unusual loft-style location on the second floor of the former Queen Street Art Studios. The large, bright windows, wooden floors and white walls have set the scene for a unique style of cake that combines a modern finish with fresh baking. The bakery steers away from anything pre-packed, or pre-baked.
With a family name to look after, James and Dawn care about the cakes your family receive, and this is reflected in their customer service and the end product.

James learned his trade under Bea Vo (formerly of Bea's of Bloomsbury, London). He spent several years specialising in hand-painted bespoke wedding cakes and sugar fondant work. His cakes were displayed in the windows of Selfridge's on Oxford Street, one of London’s busiest shopping districts. As a baker, James has worked in in Belfast, London, Sydney and Melbourne.
Dawn has been baking since she was a child. She has a keen sense of flavour and texture, and is interested in how American recipes merge with Irish tastes. Dawn is a former journalist who joined James in setting up cakesbyjames in 2010.
The bakery operates opening hours by appointment only. Cake orders can be arranged by email, telephone or in person. Two weeks' notice is normally required on cake orders.
